Life Processes in Plants

What the roots take in

Roots sit in the soil. Leaves sit in the air. Which part takes in what?

The idea

Roots take in water. Minerals dissolved in the water come too. Dissolved means mixed into water, too small to see. A solid grain of sand does not dissolve. So it does not go in.

Leaves take in carbon dioxide through tiny holes called stomata. Leaves also catch the sunlight.

Dissolved goes in. Solid stays out.

Soil holds the water and minerals that a plant needs. A plant can grow with no soil. Its roots sit in water with minerals.
