Life Processes in Plants

Where in a leaf it happens

A leaf is green, flat and wide. Which part does which job?

The idea

Some parts catch light, some pass gases, some carry water and food.

Chlorophyll is the green pigment, a colour the leaf makes. It catches sunlight.

Stomata are tiny holes, called pores, in the leaf skin. Carbon dioxide and oxygen pass through them. Many leaves have lots of stomata on the underside.

Veins carry water into the leaf and food out of it.

A wide, flat leaf has more surface. So it catches more sunlight.

A leaf has working parts.

Watch out!

A pale patch is not a dead patch. It has less chlorophyll, so it makes little food.
