Life Processes in Plants

What a leaf does with light

Take light, air or water away from a green leaf. Does it still make food?

The idea

A leaf needs sunlight, carbon dioxide, water and chlorophyll to make food. If one is missing, the leaf makes no food.

Chlorophyll is the green colour in a leaf. Photosynthesis is making food from carbon dioxide and water, using sunlight.

Carbon dioxide + waterGlucose + oxygen

Sunlight gives the energy. Chlorophyll catches the sunlight. Any green part can make food, not only leaves.

All four are there: light, air (carbon dioxide), water, green (chlorophyll). Food is made.
Step 1 of 2
  1. All four are there: light, air (carbon dioxide), water, green (chlorophyll). Food is made.
  2. Take light away. Nothing is made at all.
