Exploring Magnets

Everyday uses of magnets

A fridge door stays shut by itself. What holds it?

Loading lab…

The idea

The fridge door, knife strip, pencil box and compass have magnets.

A magnet keeps a fridge door shut. A magnet strip on a wall holds a knife. A magnet shuts a pencil box. A compass needle is a small magnet.

A magnet holds only when it is close. A big gap lets the door, knife or lid go.
