Data & Patterns I

Start here

Write one number every evening: how many mangoes fell. Is that data?

This track's six ideas, in order.

Yes. This track shows what data is. It also shows what to do with it.

What this track covers

  • What is data? — facts you collect and keep.
  • Kinds of data — numbers, words, pictures, video and sounds.
  • Groups — sorting mixed answers into a few clear groups.
  • Tally marks — one mark per answer, counted in fives.
  • Pictographs — one picture means a set amount.
  • Bar charts — a taller bar means a bigger count.

Your maths book has a chapter on data handling. It uses the same ideas. Try each idea in its lab.
