How Nature Works in Harmony

One kind, or all kinds

A pond has 6 fish, 4 frogs, 5 lotus and 3 ducks. What do we call each group?

Loading lab…

Count one kind: the 6 fish.
Step 1 of 3
  1. Count one kind: the 6 fish.
  2. Add the frogs, the lotus and the ducks.
  3. All the kinds together are the community.

The rule

A population is one kind in one place. A community is all the populations there.

The 6 fish are a population. So are the 4 frogs. The fish, frogs, lotus and ducks are the community of the pond.

Add the water and soil to the community. Then you have the whole ecosystem.
