AI Literacy III: How Machines Learn

Groups with no prices

Remove the prices from ten crates. Can a program still put them in groups?

A cross marks the middle of a group. One round puts every crate into the nearer group.

Ten crates with no prices. Only their places are known.
Step 1 of 5
  1. Ten crates with no prices. Only their places are known.
  2. Start from the two crates furthest apart. Each gets a cross.
  3. Each crate joins the nearer cross.
  4. Move each cross to the middle of its group. One crate switches.
  5. Repeat. In round 3 nobody moves. The groups are 5 and 5.

The rule

With no prices, closeness can still make groups. Repeat until nobody changes group.

A group's middle is the mean of its spots and days. Mean spots: add all spots, then divide by the crate count. Do the same for days. Learning with no answers given is unsupervised learning.

Now put the prices back. Group A has 3 full price and 2 cut price crates. Group B has 3 cut price and 2 full price. The groups are not the prices. The program never saw a price when it made the groups.

Tap Next round until the groups stop moving.
