AI Literacy III: How Machines Learn

A guess for every square

Ask every square on the board one question: which crate is nearest? The board is a grid of 121 squares. A board painted this way is a map.

Eight priced crates sit on the board. One is crate C.
Step 1 of 4
  1. Eight priced crates sit on the board. One is crate C.
  2. One square asks: which crate is nearest? The one just below it.
  3. Paint every square with its nearest crate's price. A map appears.
  4. Move crate C to 5 spots, 9 days. The map changes.

The rule

Every square copies its nearest crate. A tie gets no price. Move a crate and the map changes.

On this board, eight crates price 120 of the 121 squares. A tie is a square equally near two differently priced crates. Moving crate C to 5 spots, 9 days changes 22 squares.

A moved crate can become nearest to other squares. So their prices can change.

Learning from examples that come with answers is supervised learning.

Slide crate C to new places. Watch the map.
