AI Literacy III: How Machines Learn

Start here

A seller marks each mango crate full price or cut price. Cut price means a lower price. Can a program learn her habit?

This track's five ideas, in order.

This is AI Literacy III: How Machines Learn. You teach a small program with priced crates. Every crate here is invented.

What this track covers

  • The closest one. Copy the price of the nearest crate.
  • The whole board. A few crates give a guess for every square.
  • No labels at all. Closeness can make groups with no prices.
  • How many examples. Test the program on crates it never saw.
  • All from one corner. One-sided examples give one-sided guesses.

Your school handbook explains test data, accuracy and unfair data. Here you practise them with crates.

Need a quick recap?

  • Training — examples with answers teach a program a rule.
  • Three ways to learn — supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement.
  • Groups — sorting things by what they share.
