Exploring Substances: Acidic, Basic, and Neutral

Start here

A lemon wedge on chaat. A bucket of soapy water. One paper strip can sort them.

A paper strip finds the group. Never a taste.

This is Chapter 2, Exploring Substances: Acidic, Basic, and Neutral.

What you will learn

  • Every substance is acidic, basic or neutral.
  • A paper strip called an indicator shows the group by changing colour.
  • Litmus, turmeric and red rose are indicators.
  • An acid and a base cancel each other. This is neutralisation.
  • Plant extracts and even a smell can be indicators.
  • Neutralisation helps acidic soil and acidic factory waste.

Need a quick recap?

  • Does it dissolve? Most tests here use a substance mixed in water.

Stay safe

Nobody here tastes, touches or smells anything. Every jar and every strip is on the screen.
