Digital Safety & Citizenship II

Pictures get changed

A photo can be changed after it is taken. It can still look ordinary.

A price board on a stall.
Step 1 of 4
  1. A price board on a stall.
  2. Before: the board says ₹40.
  3. After: same board, looks ordinary, says ₹90.
  4. The price now says something else.

A picture is altered when it is changed after it was made. Brightening and colour filters are alterations too. A colour filter changes the colours of a photo.

The question is whether a change makes the picture say something untrue.

Brightening a photo of a stall usually says nothing untrue. Changing a price does. Cropping means cutting off the edges of a photo. Cropping can mislead, if it cuts out what matters. To mislead is to give a wrong idea.

Size is not the clue. A big change can matter less than a small one.

A picture that tells you to act? Show a grown-up you trust.

Sort each change.
