Living, or not?
Is a dry rajma seed alive? It does not move in your hand.

The idea
Yes, a dry rajma seed is alive, but it is resting.
Living things usually show four signs.
- They grow and become bigger.
- They need energy. Animals eat food. Plants make food from sunlight.
- They respond to what is around them.
- They reproduce — they make more of their own kind.
A stone or a steel spoon shows none of these signs.
Watch out!
A seed that shows none of the signs may still be alive. Dry rajma is resting. A seed needs water to start growing. Soak it and it swells, then sprouts.
