Every bar the same height

A farm's two seasons had totals of 100 and 200 quintals. A quintal is 100 kilograms. What if every bar is made the same height?

Same shares, different totals: 100 quintals and 200.

The rule

A 100% stacked bar gives every bar the same height. Each segment shows a share of its own bar. A share is a part of a whole, as a percent.

Each crop's share of its own season
CropSeason 1Season 2
Paddy40 of 100 = 40%80 of 200 = 40%
Ragi25 of 100 = 25%50 of 200 = 25%
Pulses35 of 100 = 35%70 of 200 = 35%

The two bars look identical. The shares are the same, but the totals are not.

A 100% bar shows shares only. Read a count only when the total is written beside it.

With the total, a share becomes a count. 25% of 200 is 25 ÷ 100 × 200 = 50. That is 50 quintals of ragi.

A pie chart marked only in percentages also shows shares only.
