A Story of Numbers

One mark for one thing

You keep score with one stroke for every ball bowled. A stroke is a short line. It is also called a mark.

One mark for one ball.
Step 1 of 4
  1. One mark for one ball.
  2. Six balls, six strokes.
  3. Twenty strokes, no gaps at all.
  4. Hard to read. Count from one.

Rule: One mark stands for one thing counted.

A row like this shows the exact count. But the row is slow for anyone else to read. Every mark looks the same, so you must count each one. If you forget where you stopped, you must count again from one.
