Surface Areas and Volumes

The tent and its floor

One tent, four questions, and four different numbers.

A tent is a cone over a drum.
Step 1 of 4
  1. A tent is a cone over a drum.
  2. Canvas covers both curved sides.
  3. The floor is the disc at the bottom.
  4. The rim's two discs are never sold.

Canvas, floor and air

The tent is a cone on a drum, a cylinder. All lengths are in metres. The cone has radius 7 and height 24. The cone's slant height is 25. The drum has radius 7 and height 10. The drum's curved side is its wall. The canvas does not cover the ground.

One tent, four questions
QuestionWhat we countAnswer
CanvasCone skin 550, wall 440990 m²
Floor clothThe ground circle154 m²
Air insideCone 1232, drum 15402772 m³
Canvas at ₹10 per m²990 × 10₹9900

The numbers: cone skin = 22/7 × 7 × 25 = 550. Drum wall = 2 × 22/7 × 7 × 10 = 440. Ground = 22/7 × 7 × 7 = 154. Canvas = 550 + 440 = 990. Cone = (1/3) × 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 24 = 1232. Drum = 22/7 × 7 × 7 × 10 = 1540. Air = 1232 + 1540 = 2772.

No answer adds every face. The cone's base and the drum's lid touch each other. Both are inside.

In a tent question, canvas covers the curved parts. Read the question to see if the ground is covered. Air inside is a volume. It uses both solids whole.

Answer four questions about one tent.
