Surface Areas and Volumes

Start here

A toy top, a tent, a medicine capsule. Each is two or more solids joined.

One toy, two solids, joined at a rim.

This is Chapter 12, Surface Areas and Volumes, in your book. In Class 9 you measured one solid at a time. Here two or more solids make one object.

What you will learn

  • Two solids, one object. Name the basic solids in an object.
  • Outside and inside. One object, two questions: area or volume.
  • What the join hides. Parts that touch are not on the outside.
  • The tent. Canvas, floor, air and price are four different answers.
  • The hollow. A bowl cut out removes a flat mouth. It adds a curved bowl.
  • The slant. Split the total height, then find the slant height.
  • The job picks the faces. Read the question before you add.
  • Start to finish. Solve a whole question in order.

Use π = 22/7 unless a question says otherwise.
