Light: Mirrors and Lenses

Start here

A steel spoon is two mirrors in one. Look in its inner side, and your face is upside down.

A spoon in water looks bent. A curved spoon shows your face upside down or upright.

This is Chapter 10, Light: Mirrors and Lenses.

An image is the picture that a mirror or lens shows.

What you will learn

  • The law of reflection: the leaving angle equals the arriving angle.
  • Plane, concave and convex mirrors: what image each one makes.
  • Light bends when it goes from air into water.
  • Lenses: convex and concave, and the images they make.

Need a quick recap?

  • Shadows and Reflections (Class 7): light goes straight. It is reflected, or sent back, by a smooth surface.

Stay safe

Never look at the Sun. Never use a mirror or a lens to gather sunlight.
