Light: Shadows and Reflections

Start here

Light has one habit. It goes straight. This whole chapter follows from that habit.

One habit of light: a shadow, a pinhole picture, and a bounce off a mirror.

This is Chapter 11 in your NCERT Science book. It is called Light: Shadows and Reflections.

What you will learn

  • Light goes straight. A wall in the way stops it.
  • A shadow is a place light did not reach.
  • A tiny hole can make a whole picture, upside down.
  • A mirror sends light off at the same slant it came in.
  • Own light. Some things make light. The Moon does not.
  • Through a material. Clear, blurry or blocked: three kinds.
  • A periscope uses two mirrors to see over a wall.

Need a quick recap?

This lesson helps. If it is unclear, open it first.

  • See-through or not? (in Materials Around Us). Opaque means no light gets through.

Stay safe

Never look at the Sun. Not with your eyes. Not through a hole. Not for a second.
