Getting food and oxygen around

Food passes into the blood in the gut, the long food tube. Oxygen passes in at the lungs. How do both reach your legs?

The idea

The blood carries food and oxygen to your legs.

Blood, a pump and tubes work as one set. This is the circulatory system. The pump is the heart. The tubes are the blood vessels. The heart pushes blood round through them. The blood does the same for every part. The blood also carries waste away. Slide the blood out and back. Then switch the heart off.

The heart pumps blood out in a loop.
Step 1 of 4
  1. The heart pumps blood out in a loop.
  2. Blood carries food and oxygen out to the parts.
  3. Each part uses what it needs.
  4. Blood carries waste, such as carbon dioxide, back. The heart pumps again.

The heart pumps blood through blood vessels. Blood carries food and oxygen to every part and takes waste away.
