The big picture
One number for hot or cold. Read it right, and that is the whole idea.
| Idea | Remember |
|---|---|
| A number for hot | Warmed liquid expands and climbs the tube on its own. |
| Reading the scale | Difference between two labels, divided by the gaps, is one mark's worth. |
| The clinical thermometer | A short range, about 35 °C to 42 °C. The reading holds until a shake. |
| The laboratory thermometer | A wide range, about −10 °C to 110 °C. Range decides what it reads. |
| Using it well | Bulb fully in. Wait to read. Keep away from flames. Tell an adult if it breaks. |
| Everyday temperatures | Subtract the smaller from the bigger. Count up across zero first. |
Now open Chapter 7, Temperature and its Measurement. You tried every idea here first.
