Assemble and report

The four jobs exist. Running them in the right order is a job of its own. Each job reads what the job before it wrote. Then it passes its own answer to the next job. A tally is a count for each word.

Two ways to run the same four jobs.
Step 1 of 5
  1. Two ways to run the same four jobs.
  2. In order — collect, decide, order, report — the sheet lists every kite.
  3. Tally: steady 2 of 5, dancer 3 of 5.
  4. Out of order — report runs before collect has gathered anything.
  5. The sheet lists 0 kites. Tally: 0 of 0. Each job works, but the order is wrong.

The rule

Collect, decide, order, report — the order matters. A job run too early has nothing to work on. The sheet shows exactly what the order produced.

Run in order, the check-in list becomes today's sheet, shortest tail first:

The kite sheet, in the order the pipeline produced it
KiteSpanTailWord
A134steady
A284dancer
A427steady
A398dancer
A5711dancer

Tally: steady 2 of 5, dancer 3 of 5.

Kites A1 and A2 both have a tail of 4. The sort swaps two kites only for a strictly shorter tail. A2's tail is not shorter than A1's, so there is no swap. A1 stays ahead of A2. No kite after them has a shorter tail.

Tap the four jobs in order. Then tap them in another order.

Every card really runs its job. Each job runs on the check-in list and register you already checked.
