The rule

A square corner is like the corner of a book.

  • A circle has one curved line. It has no corners.
  • A triangle has 3 straight edges and 3 corners.
  • A square has 4 equal edges and 4 square corners.
  • A rectangle has 4 straight edges and 4 square corners. Opposite edges, the ones facing each other, are equal.

A square is a special rectangle. Its four edges are all equal.

Example

A shape has 4 equal edges and 4 square corners. It is a square.

Watch out!

A square standing on one corner is still a square. The edges and corners are still the same. Turning a shape does not change it.
