This time you collect your own data. Then you say what it really shows.

A small survey, from question to sentence.

This is Data & Patterns III: Running a Small Survey. A survey asks the same question of many people. The question is how a class gets to school.

What you will learn

  • A good question. Its answers can be put side by side.
  • The same way every time. One method for every person.
  • The mean. Add the values. Share the total equally.
  • Which chart. Compare groups with a chart.
  • What it shows. Say only what the rows can show.

Your school handbook names surveys as one way to collect data. This track shows how to run one well.

Need a quick recap?

  • What is data? — facts you collect and keep.
  • Tallying — one mark for each answer, then count.
  • Reading a bar chart — one bar per group, on one scale.
  • One row per thing, one column per fact — a table's shape.
