A forest is more than wood. What stops when we cut the trees?

Loading lab…

Wood, homes for animals, and roots that hold the soil.

A forest gives wood. A forest is a home for animals. The roots of its trees hold the soil.

A patch is a small area of forest. To clear a patch is to cut down its trees.

Rule: Clearing a patch stops two jobs. They are animal homes, and roots holding soil.

New trees can grow in the cleared patch. That takes many years.
