Lesson 9 of 11
The big picture
Show on a big screenThe eight ideas, listed in build order.
| Idea | Remember |
|---|---|
| The plan, in plain words | Collect, decide, order, report. Four named jobs, each one built before. |
| Collect the day | Walk the list, keep today's rows whole. Yesterday stays on the list, untouched. |
| The distance between two | Square the gap across, square the gap up, add them. No square root needed. |
| See the board | Every kite is a point. The nearest example carries the reason for the word. |
| Write the classifier | Best-so-far walk, strictly nearer takes over. Ties keep the one met first. |
| When the nearest is wrong | The measurement is correct. A narrow register still answers with the wrong word. |
| Assemble and report | The four jobs run in order. Out of order, the sheet is empty, not broken. |
| Who it gets wrong | Steady 2 of 3, dancer 2 of 2 under the narrow register. With homemade kites held, steady 3 of 3. |
These lines sum up the track. The four jobs run in an order. That order is part of the program. The classifier is one rule, used again on a whole register. Its answers can only be as broad as its register. A finished program still needs two questions asked. Who does it get wrong? What did its examples never hold?
One program from all the pieces. Keep the two questions. Ask them of every register you build next.
