Lesson 0 of 11

5 min

Text size

A school kite mela, a kite fair, needs a sheet by evening. The sheet is a printed list of the day's kites. Each kite has two measurements. Span is how wide the kite is. Tail is how long its tail is. Both are counted in hand-spans. A hand-span is the width of an open hand. This track builds the program that makes the sheet.

Four jobs, one program: collect, decide, order, report.

What this track covers

  • The plan, in plain words. Four named jobs: collect, decide, order, report.
  • Collect the day. Keep only today's kites from the check-in list.
  • The distance between two. One number every later job uses.
  • See the board. Kites drawn as points, nearest example marked.
  • Write the classifier. A classifier gives each kite a word. It uses the nearest-example rule.
  • When the nearest is wrong. One wrong word, traced step by step.
  • Assemble and report. The four jobs, in order, printing a real sheet.
  • Who it gets wrong. Right answers counted, group by group.

Eight lessons. Lesson 7 joins all four jobs in one program.
