A pixel is one tiny dot of one colour.

A picture on a screen is a grid of pixels.

A grid is made of rows going across and columns going down.

Count the pixels in a grid: rows times columns.

Grid size and how many pixels it has
GridPixels
8 × 864
10 × 10100

An 8 × 8 grid has 8 rows and 8 columns. So it has 8 × 8 = 64 pixels.

Far away, each dot is too small to see alone. So the dots look like one picture. Up close, you see the squares.
