Text size

Chaat, sea water and brass are all mixtures. In some, you can see the parts. In some, you cannot.

Workshop A's brass: more copper, less zinc.
Step 1 of 3
  1. Workshop A's brass: more copper, less zinc.
  2. Workshop B's brass: less copper, more zinc.
  3. Different amounts. Both are brass.

In a uniform mixture, the parts cannot be told apart. In a non-uniform mixture, you can see the parts. An alloy is a uniform mixture made mostly of metal, like brass.

The rule

In a mixture, two or more substances are mixed but not joined. They do not react with each other. The amounts can vary. A uniform mixture looks the same throughout.

Because the substances are not joined, no ratio is fixed.

Sort six mixtures. Are they uniform?
