Lesson 7 of 9
The big picture
Show on a big screenOne puri. Six parts of a fair investigation.
| Part | Rules out |
|---|---|
| A guess you can test | A claim nothing could ever go against |
| Change one, keep the rest the same | A difference with many possible causes |
| Something to compare with | A number with nothing beside it |
| Write it down as you go | A claim resting on a day nobody wrote down |
| Supports, goes against, or says nothing | A verdict pushed past what the records show |
| Plan it before you start | Changing the plan after the results are in |
A good hypothesis can be shown wrong. That is what a test is for. And "says nothing" is a real answer.
Now open Exploring the Investigative World of Science. You have chosen what to change and what to keep. You have compared, recorded and judged.
