Why does a puri puff in hot oil? You can investigate it.

Your book calls this Chapter 1, Exploring the Investigative World of Science. It is about finding facts by testing, not by arguing. A claim is a statement that may be right or wrong.

What this track covers

  • A guess you can test — a claim a test could show wrong.
  • Change one, keep the rest the same — one cause.
  • Something to compare with — a result alone tells you little.
  • Write it down as you go — use only what is written.
  • Supports, goes against, or says nothing — a record's job.
  • Plan it before you start — what to change, keep and observe (notice).

One rule before anything else

A bench is a screen where you try a test. Every bench here is a simulation, a pretend test. The puris, the seeds and the numbers are made up. Nothing here asks you to fry, grow or time anything.
