Two ribbons are 6.25 m and 6.4 m long. Which is longer?

Loading lab…

Compare column by column. The first difference decides it.

The rule

6.4 m is longer than 6.25 m. Here is why.

Compare the whole parts first. If they match, compare tenths. Then hundredths, then thousandths.

The first place that differs decides. Here both have 6 wholes. In tenths, 2 is less than 4. So 6.4 is more.

More digits does not mean more. 6.25 has more digits, but 6.4 is greater.

₹58.40 and ₹58.4 are the same price. ₹58.75 is more, because 7 tenths is more than 4 tenths.
