A worker puts a long rope round the school field. How much rope does he need?

Perimeter walks the edge. Area fills the inside.

This is your textbook's Chapter 6, Perimeter and Area.

  • Perimeter — the distance all the way around a shape's edge.
  • Area — how much flat space a shape covers, in equal small squares.
  • Real shapes — one rope does not decide the area. A shape that is not a rectangle can be cut into rectangles.

Try each lab before you read the rule.
