Spam is junk email. A spam program learned a rule from six practice messages. The rule counts the "!" marks in a message. Two or more marks means junk. The rule was right on all six.

The rule: lots of exclamation marks means junk.
Step 1 of 4
  1. The rule: lots of exclamation marks means junk.
  2. It got all six practice messages right.
  3. A teacher's real note also has two marks.
  4. The rule calls it junk. It is wrong.

An AI can sound sure and still be wrong.

An AI learns from examples. With few examples, it can get a new case wrong. The rule was right on all six, so it says "100% sure". It says the same on a new case.

Test three messages. Watch how sure the rule stays.
