A machine adds ten thousand numbers in seconds. Does that make it smarter than a person?

A machine adds ten thousand numbers fast.
Step 1 of 4
  1. A machine adds ten thousand numbers fast.
  2. A person can tell if a joke is unkind.
  3. Machines are fast. People understand meaning.
  4. Two lists. Neither one wins.

No, a machine is better at sums, not at everything.

Machines are fast at sums. People understand meaning.

Machines do not get tired. People feel emotions, like joy or anger, and think of new ideas. Intelligence — the ability to learn and solve problems. Human intelligence and machine intelligence are two lists, not one ranking. A ranking would put one above the other.

Watch out!

AI does not need a robot body. A spam filter and a translation app are both AI. Neither one has a body.

Race the machine at sums. Then ask it to judge a joke. It counts nice words, so it gets the joke wrong.
