Text size

Someone left five steps on paper. What number will the count box hold at the end?

A set line puts a chosen number into a box. Set count to 0 is a set line.

Set count to 0. The box holds 0.
Step 1 of 5
  1. Set count to 0. The box holds 0.
  2. Draw a dot. The count goes up by 1.
  3. Draw a dot. The count goes up again.
  4. Set count to 5. The old number is gone.
  5. Draw a dot. The box ends at 6.

At the end, the count box holds 6.

The rule

Read the steps in order. A set line replaces the old number in the box.

In these steps, each dot also adds 1 to the count. Three dots were drawn. After Set count to 5, the last dot gives 5 + 1 = 6. The count ended at 6. The dots and the count are two different numbers.

Predict the count. Then run the steps.
