4 min

Text size

Two leaves grow on one mango tree. Are they the same size?

Loading lab…

Leaf 1, from a mango branch.
Step 1 of 4
  1. Leaf 1, from a mango branch.
  2. Leaf 2 — a little longer.
  3. Leaf 3 — longer still.
  4. Same tree. Different lengths.

The rule

No. Two leaves on one mango tree differ a little in size.

Variation means small differences between living things of one kind.

Leaves on one tree differ in length. Puppies born together, called a litter, differ in colour.

Example

The lab has eight leaves from one mango tree. The shortest leaf is 14 cm. The longest leaf is 21 cm. So the longest is 21 − 14 = 7 cm longer.
