Spot the repeat

4 min

Text size

You thread rakhi beads. You do not look back at the whole strip. What do you remember?

Loading lab…

You remember only the piece that repeats. So you need not remember every bead.

A bead strip: circle, circle, diamond, again and again.
Step 1 of 3
  1. A bead strip: circle, circle, diamond, again and again.
  2. The first three beads are the repeating piece.
  3. It repeats six times — eighteen beads in all.

A pattern is a small piece that repeats.

Name the piece once. A long strip becomes a short line: "three beads, six times."

A clap-clap-stomp dance is a pattern. A school timetable is a pattern too.

Try the lab to finish this lesson.
