A friend wrote a poem. You copy it. You put your own name on it.

Someone else wrote a poem.
Step 1 of 4
  1. Someone else wrote a poem.
  2. You copy it onto your page.
  3. Their name is gone. It is still copying.
  4. The right way: own words, quotes, name.

Using someone's work without credit or permission is wrong.

Credit means saying who made the work.

Plagiarism is using someone's work as if it were yours. Changing a few words does not make the work yours. Write in your own words. Put exact words in "quotes". Say who wrote them.

Software piracy is copying or sharing a program without permission. Get a program from its official maker. Do not copy it or share it without permission.

Intellectual property is a creation of your mind, like a song. The law protects it. Others usually need your permission to use it.

Copy a poem. Change some words. Then say who wrote it.
