A current makes a magnetic field. This track maps that field and uses it.

What this track covers

It is Chapter 12 of your Class 10 Science book.

  • The invisible shape around a wire: a field in rings.
  • Drawing the shape: field lines and what they tell you.
  • A magnet you can switch: a coil magnet.
  • The field pushes back: Fleming's left-hand rule.
  • Your house has a circuit: live, neutral, earth and a fuse.
  • Two kinds of current: direct and alternating.
  • Motors: a coil, a field and a split ring.
  • The field of a loop: one turn, then a coil.
  • Induction and the generator: a moving magnet makes current.
  • Colours and ratings of house wires: the book's colours and circuits.

One rule before anything else

Every lab here is a drawing on a screen. Mains current is the supply in your home's sockets. Mains current can kill. Only a trained electrician works on real wiring.
